Tis the season for baseball. The smell of the dirt, the ting of the bat...this is how I know spring is here and summer is coming. We enjoyed a great, but chilly, evening of baseball and got to capture both sides of the game.
As I was shooting these young athletes I was touched with a bit of nostalgia. We've gone from shooting these kids playing U6 soccer and thinking how cute they are running around playing "bunch ball" to being impressed by their teamwork and ability to rally a comeback. There are instances when I wish I could stop time so that my kids and my clients' kids would stop growing but mostly I'm impressed each day with their accomplishments. I hope that these images freeze a little bit of time so that as these kids continue to grow up into talented young teens and then adults, not only will we remember how cute they were but we will see how much they have accomplished.
We've been following these teams for a few years now and the kids have gone from cute kids in little uniforms and pads to really good athletes. Their dedication and skill are impressive and I know they are learning some lifelong lessons on the field.
We've been photographing this young lady and her brother for many years and were honored to be asked to photograph her first year as a high school cheerleader.
I've been marvelling at the quick passage of time lately and shooting these baseball players reminded me again of how fast time passes and how fast our children grow up. It seems like it was just yesterday that I was shooting some of these players as little boys playing baseball. Now, they are serious skillful ballplayers.
