Markee Personal Training

We recently had the opportunity to capture Pam Markee and her fantastic interns at Markee Personal Training for an environmental business session. Pam is an energetic personal trainer that works with individuals of all ages and fitness levels. She has a wonderful new studio (complete with a full bath) with all of the tools necessary to help get her clients in shape.

Mitch

So, Jason and I arrived at our second destination for this great senior shoot and started scouting out the location while Mitch was changing clothes. Yeah that path is great, ooh the grass near the water will be a good spot and oh we must use that great log over there.

When Mitch is ready we start with the path...a couple of young bike riders squeeze by. Then I move Mitch to the very center of the path right at the bottom of a small hill - it's a great spot, the path frames him, the colors are great, we're getting some great shots and then come some more bike riders, this time there are four adults. "Sorry," I say. They don't seem too pleased. Then it finally hits me, I've positioned Mitch right in the middle of a bike path at the bottom of a hill - the last place that riders want to be slowed down. Oops! Sorry about that riders. So, the next time I'm stuck behind a slow poke I'll know that it's karma coming back for me.

We continue with the shoot and are going to wrap up with the log. As we start walking that way I realize that it's quite a climb to the log and mention that it might not work, it's just too high, too dangerous, blah, blah, blah. Jason takes one look at Mitch and asks what he thinks. "Epic." What was I thinking, of course they are going to shoot on the log.

Lesson learned...Jason gets to pick the next few portrait spots - let's see what he comes up with.

At the end of the day the shots on the path turned out great as well as the shots on the log.

Attorney at Work

Several years ago, I joined a business networking group, LeTip of Sacramento. It was one of those things I thought I'd never do but turned out to be one of the best things I could have done for my business. Not only have I received many quality referrals over the years, I've met and worked with many wonderful, professional business people.

Because of my involvement in LeTip, I have developed my own approach to business photography. If you know me at all, you know that the standard business headshot is not really my cup of tea. Over the last couple of years, I've developed my own approach of capturing the personality of business people and what they do. Our environmental business sessions are shot entirely on location creating dynamic images that convey the message of each individual business.

This shoot was for Barnes Law Offices, an experienced litigation firm that represents individuals and small businesses. It was a pleasure to photograph Alan and Barbara. Their passion for the law and their clients was evident especially when we were shooting the images of them working - you'd have though Alan was presenting his argument in court. I don't remember what he was arguing but I know that if I needed an attorney, I'd want him on my side.

Life is Good

A few weeks ago we had the honor of photographing a very special party for a very special young man.

The young man is Josh. On a Friday evening last fall, Josh was hit by a car while walking home from a school event. News of Josh's accident spread quickly and everyone was in shock. We often give lip service to the idea that life is precious, that things can change in an instant - when something terrible happens to someone you know the news is always surprising and it hits hard.

In the days and months that followed Josh's accident, family and friends were kept informed of his condition and progress via Caringbridge an online service that offers "free, personalized websites that support and connect loved ones during critical illness, treatment and recovery." You can see Josh's story here. His story is one of courage and strength. His story is also one of love and support from family, friends and a community of people touched by Josh's positive spirit.

The party was held on the one year anniversary of Josh's accident. His mom told me that she had mixed feelings about having the party on the exact anniversary of the accident. However, when the day of the party came, it seemed absolutely appropriate. The love and support of family and friends was overwhelming and a difficult day was turned into a celebration of life.

Life is Good was the theme for the day. Love, friendship and thankfulness were abundant as was good food, good music and good times. Allen of Dinner My Way cooked up some wonderful food and Rendezvous with Cool Beans kept the party rockin' with great music.

Congratulations Delaney

Mazie's sister, Delaney, recently celebrated her First Communion and we were honored to be asked to help commemorate the special occasion with a special shoot for Delaney. She was a joy to work with.
